EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement & Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy that is efficacious and considered to be evidence based practice (SAHMSA, WHO). EMDR Therapy is an 8 phased treatment that is effective for the treatment of trauma in infants to adults. The phases include standardized protocols that incorporate best practices from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has been taught and used in more than 70 countries around the world and helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.

How does it work?
EMDR Therapy is a method of psychotherapy that helps people resolve emotional distress and heal from symptoms that are caused by disturbing life experiences. EMDR Therapy promotes the healing process that is necessary to work through a psychological trauma. It is recognized by APA, the World Health Organization, and the Department of Defense as an effective treatment of trauma and other disturbing experiences.

During therapy, clinicians trained in EMDR Therapy traditionally direct lateral eye movement. This can also be accomplished through tapping the hands or audio stimuli. By having the patient focus on specific memories surrounding a traumatic event, the therapy requires less clinician-led interpretation and instead allows patients to gain insights through accelerated intellectual and emotional processes.
